 Unparalleled Mountain Wuyi

Mount WuYi (Wǔyíshān 武夷山) , a fairly land on earth, is situated in the north of FuJian (Fǔjiàn 福建) Province. It is the most beautiful place in Southeast of China. It extends about 5 kilometers from east to west and about 14 kilometers from north to south. It occupies an area of 70 square kilometers. There are more than two hundred thousand people in the region.

 

Mountain WuYi was made up of hills , belonging to the red rock relief, which have changed over thousands of years by the action of that is today, and is well known for its green water and red mountains. In this region, that includes the Nine Twist Stream (Jiǔqǔxī 九曲溪), thirty-six peaks, seventy-two caves and ninety-nine rock formations.

In 1996, Fujian Wuyi Mountains was honored as “World Cultural and Natural Heritage” by the UN Organization of Science, Education and Culture. Wuyi Mountains is located in the Wuyishan city the northern part of Fujian Province,it is a place of interesting with a long history, and among the first group of tourist sites elected as the national key tourist resort, Mrs. Barerke, president of the executive committee of World Tourism Organization, described it as “the model of world environmental preservation”.  It is said that in remote antiquity, a man of virtue named Peng Zu took his clan to settle at a beautiful place in the southeast, but at the time, the place was flooded. Peng Wu and Peng Yi, the two sons of Peng Zu, rallied the people, and they cut through the mountain and dug a river to discharge the floodwater. The river is now known as the Jiuqu River (Jiǔqǔhé 九曲河). To remember the great service of the two brothers, people of later generations named the Mountain Wuyi. They also gave the father, Peng Zu, the title of Gentleman Wu Yi and built Wuyi Palace by the Jiuqu River.

Mountain Wuyi is known for its enchanting scenery. Feudal emperors conferred titles on it and praised its beauty with inscriptions on the rock faces. During the Five Dynasties (907-960), Taoist (Dàojiào 道教) believers considered the mountain one of the 36 places of happiness. In the sixth century, men of letters opened schools on the mountain and turned it into a center of Confucianism. Zhu Xi , an idealist philosopher of the Southern Song Dynasty, came to give lectures, and he established the Min school of philosophy, named after a popular name for Fujian Province. Min philosophy was soon acknowledged as one of China's four major schools of philosophy.


Great Landform Of Mountain Wuyi
Wuyi Mountain is famous for a kind of landform known in Chinese as Danxia (Dānxiá 丹霞) Within the 60-square-kilometer scenic area, layers of red sandstone form odd-shaped peaks girdled by the Jiuqu River, which turns nine times as it winds its way downhill, hence its name, Nine Bends.

The Jiuqu Stream (Jiǔqǔxī 九曲溪) Scenic Zone has some of the most unusual scenes in the Wuyi Mountain Scenic Area. " This line is from a poem about the beauty of the area by Li Gang (1083-1140), an official of the Northern Song Dynasty." A clear and shallow water runs through the mountain, and on its way downhill it makes nine bends.'' Rafting down the Jiuqu River is a favorite with visitors. The nine bends are in a section of nine kilometers, and the visitor can board a raft and drift all the way down from the uppermost bend to the lowest, all the while enjoying the scenery on both banks and listening to the rafts man tell stories.
At its two banks, myriad peaks soar up, vying with one another for beauty and wild azalea flowers glow crimson. The Jiuqu Stream is a fabulous place to visit. One taking a bamboo raft downstream would be mesmerized as if cruising in the mysterious universe.


Tianyou Peak

Unforgettable Tianyou Peak
Tianyou Peak (Tiānyóufēng 天游峰) rises over other peaks north of the Liuqu Stream (Liùqǔxī 六曲溪), a tributary of the Jiuqu River, and is the most beautiful place in the scenic zone. Standing on top of Tianyou Peak, one has the feeling of standing in the Heavenly Palace with all the scenic spots below. The Tianyou Temple, on the summit, houses statues of Peng Zu and his two sons. It is said that no one can boast of having been to Mountain Wuyi without visiting Tianyou Peak.

Unparalleled Taoyuan Tunnel
Taoyuan Tunnel (Táoyuándòng 桃源洞) is also north of the Liuqu Stream, in a secluded valley with mountain peaks on all sides. Walking uphill in the valley, one comes to a spot where piled-up cobblestones block the stream. It seems as if the road had come to an end. A further look reveals a tunnel under a huge rock. Passing through the tunnel, then over a stone bridge, and through a stone passage, one arrives at a valley with mountain peaks rising on both sides, where farmland unfolds in the distance, interspersed with peach trees and cottages.

The Wuyi Mountains act as a protective barrier against the inflow of cold air from the northwest and retain warm moist air originating from the sea. As a result, the area has a humid climate (humidity 80 to 85%) with high rainfall (annual average 2,200 millimeters in the south-west and 3,200 millimeters in the north) and common fogs. Lower altitudes experience annual temperatures in the range from 12 to 18 °C. The area is relatively pollution free. The Chinese government set up its first air quality monitoring station in the area on January 31, 2005.

Travel Tips
Admission Fee: One is one-day ticket(RMB140), the second is two-day(RMB150), and the third is three-day ticket(RMB160), which means you can enter into the Wuyi scenic areas in any times you line freely.
