Half a body shorter
【注音】ǎi bàn jié(r)
【解释】比喻地位、身份等比别人低下。
This is a metaphor for lower status.
【例子】
例1：不要以为他不是城里人，就比你矮半截。
Ex.1：Don’t look down up on him because he is from the countryside.

例2：小刘虽然是个残疾人，可是并不比人矮半截，他靠一双手养活了一家5口人。
Ex.2：Handicapped as he is, Xiao Liu is not less capable than other people. He supported a family of five by his own hands.

摆架子/摆谱儿
Put on airs
【注音】bǎi jiàzi/ bái pǔr
【解释】在别人面前作出很了不起的样子，或者显示自己的“身份”。
To

affect the pose of a VIP, or show off one’s “status”.
【例子】
例1：
A：听说张先生要当公司的第一把手了？
B：可能吧，你看他这几天说话，都开始摆架子了。
Ex.1：
A：I heard that MR.Zhang will be the big boss of the company.
B：Probably, look at the way he speaks these days, already put on that air.

例2：你不要跟我摆你的官架子，好不好？
Ex.2：Don’t affect the pose of a high official in front of me, will you?

例3：在我面前，请你不要摆你的臭架子！
Ex.3：Please don’t put on that disgusting airs in front of me!

例4：
A：听说小刘结婚请了十多辆奔驰车。
B：是的，他喜欢摆谱儿。
Ex.4：
A：I heard that Xiao Liu hired more than ten Benz limousines for his wedding.
B：Yeah, he likes to show off.
