Located in southern Yunnan (yún nán 云南), north of middle reaches of Honghe River (hóng hé 红河), Jianshui County (jiàn shuǐ xiàn 建水县) neighbors Mile (mí lè 弥勒), Kaiyuan (kāi yuǎn 开远), Gejiu (gè jiù 个旧) in the east, Yuanyang (yuán yáng 元阳) in the south, Shiping (shí píng 石屏) in the west, and Tonghai (tōng hǎi 通海) and Huaning (huá níng 华宁) in the north. It is 220 kilometers from Kunming (kūn míng 昆明). The climatic condition is pleasant, neither hot in summer nor cold in winter. Here, the land is vast and fertile, the climate is moderate and mild. The World Horti-Expo Garde (shì jiè yuán yì bó lǎn yuán 世界园艺博览园) is the site of the 1999 Kunming International Horticulture Exposition (kūn míng shì jiè yuán yì bó lǎn huì 昆明世界园艺博览会). It is a first class garden with typical Chinese and Yunnan (yún nán 云南) characteristics. Here you can see a grand exhibition of horticulture from everywhere in the world. It is situated in the northern suburbs of Kunming (kūn míng 昆明), 6 km from downtown, next to the Golden Temple (jīn diàn 金殿) scenic spot. It sits at an elevation of 1,920-2,010 meters above sea level, with 218 hectares in area, 2.5 km in length, and 1.1 km in width. The theme of this exposition is "Man and Nature, marching into the 21st century."

Fuxian Lake (fǔ xiān hú 抚仙湖) is located in the area connecting Chenjiang (chéng jiāng 澄江), Jiangchuan (jiāng chuān 江川) and Huaning (huá níng 华宁) counties. It is about 60 kilometers from Kunming (kūn míng 昆明). The total area of Fuxian Lake valley is 1,084 square kilometers. Here, the land is fertile and abounds with various local products: rice, wheat, broad beans, tobacco and rape-seed. It is the well-known center of Yunnan tobacco in China. It is a glittering pearl in the Yunnan-Guizhou plateau.
