A woman in her 60s was rescued at about 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday from a rock crack in Pengzhou, southwest China's Sichuan Province, more than 195 hours after the May 12 earthquake.
She had lived on rainwater since then and was conscious when rescuers found her, Phoenix TV reported.

The China Seismological Bureau (CSB) Sunday revised the magnitude of southwest China earthquake from 7.8 to 8.0 on the Richter scale.
The death toll from the powerful earthquake that jolted southwest China's Sichuan Province had risen to 32,477 nationwide as of 2 p.m. Sunday, while the number of injured reached 220,109, according to the emergency response office under the State Council.
In Sichuan alone, a total of 31,978 people were killed since Monday's deadly 7.8-magnitude earthquake, with 209,905 others injured.
Statistics from the emergency response office show that the death toll in Deyang and Mianyang cities of the province hit 10,341 and 11,874 respectively.

German tourist found well in remote village after quake
WENCHUAN, Sichuan Province, May 17 (Xinhua) -- A German tourist missing for five days has told Xinhua how villagers in an isolated community cared for him for five days after the southwest China earthquake. 
Brakus Bogdan, 62, was initially reported to have been pulled alive from quake debris, but he had in fact been safe and well, staying in Taoguan village, near the epicenter of the quake in Wenchuan County.
Bogdan was located early on Thursday, but soldiers from the People's Liberation Army were only able to evacuate him from the village on Saturday, 114 hours after the quake.
"I am totally fine. Nothing is wrong with me," the climber with the Munich-based Hauser Travel Agency told Xinhua by phone.
He was traveling with translator Xu Jianming and driver Gao Wei in a four-wheeled drive vehicle across a bridge when the quake happened. |

Though reports are varied, it now appears that the current death from the Wenchuan earthquakes is somewhere between 17,000 and 20,000 (latter figure from the Time China Blog, although most of the media is still reporting the official count at a more conservative 15,000. It's still to0 early to say just how high that figure will climb once everything is said and done, but an earlier Time's estimate put that number at around 100,000 (their man Austin Ramzy is there right now). While we hope that this isn't the case, we can see why they would say that, because other sources put the amount of buried or missing at between 27,000 and a staggering 60,000, and time is running out to get these people out. |
