Luoyang Overview











Located in the western part of China's central Henan Province (hé nán shěng 河南省), Luoyang (luò yáng 洛阳) is one of China's eight ancient capitals. Comprised of six city districts and eight counties, Luoyang occupies an area of 15,492 square kilometers, with a total population of 6.16 million, 1.4 million urban. Luoyang city proper covers an area of 544 square kilometers.

The capital city of Henan Province (hé nán shěng 河南省) since 1949, Zhengzhou (zhèng zhōu 郑州) is located in the middle of China, about 689km (413 miles) southwest of Beijing, 998km (599 miles) northwest of Shanghai. After the Longhai Railway (lǒng hǎi tiě lù 陇海铁路; Lanzhou to Lianyungang) and the Jingjiu Railway (jīng jiǔ tiě lù 京九铁路; Beijing to Kowloon) were completed, their intersection, Zhengzhou, became a vital transportation hub. Thanks to this important position, the city has prospered.

Funiu Mountaina

Located in the west of Henan Province, the famous Funiu Mountains (fú niú shān 伏牛山) is an important part of the geographical division of Northern China and Southern China. Funiu Mountains boast of the largest forest, the highest forest coverage and the richest biologic sources of Henan, extending vigorously for 400 kilometers, and also of the highest average altitude and the largest acreage among all the mountains in the Province. Funiu Mountains, among with the Yangtze River (yáng zǐ jiāng 扬子江) which is also called Changjiang River (zhǎng jiāng 长江) , Yellow River (huáng hé 黄河) , Huaihe River (huái hé 淮河) and some of the three major tributaries, constitute the he birthplace of the importance of water conservation forest.
