In 2004, Shanghai Bank Museum, the only bank museum in China was inaugurated. It occupies an exhibition space of 1300 square meters and has a collection of 2000 exhibits, with quite a number of rare ones exhibited for the first time. The museum is divided into three parts including "Hall of Transformation of Banking"Currency Hall", and "Temporary Hall". The exhibits are arranged in chronological order from modern times to contemporary times.

The "treasure" of the museum is the three volumes of Chinese paper currency sample book printed by ABN. Archived by ABN, this sample book includes more than 1,100 bank notes printed at the request of 54 Chinese banks from 1905 to 1949. As the only sample book in the world, it was bought from Beijing at an auction price of RMB 3,168,000. Among the exhibits, there is a 6 billion-yuan bank note issued by Xinjiang (xīn jiāng 新疆) Province during the reign of Chinese Kuomintang, a bank note with the biggest denomination in China's history of currency.

altExhibits also include the first generation of vertical levered Banknote Strapping Machine, which is available for visitors to bind "banknotes" in person, and the "Global Credit Card" issued by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, which has been brought to outer space together with Yang Liwei by taking Shenzhou V. Scenes composed of waxworks and material objects are exhibited, where people exchange money in the early private bank; "mongers"in Fuzhou Road exchange silver dollars; and an Indian guard stands in front of the gate, with a police baton in his hand.
