Jixi County (jì xī xiàn 绩溪县) is located in the south of Anhui Province (ān huī shěng 安徽省), belonging to "the Six Counties of Huizhou (huī zhōu liù xià 徽州六县)". As an origin of Huizhou Culture (huī zhōu wén huà 徽州文化), Jixi County is considered homeland of Huizhou Cooks (huī chú 徽厨). Characterized by hilliness, it is contiguois to Huangshan Mountain (huáng shān 黄山), She County (shè xiàn 歙县), Jingde County (jīng dé xiàn 旌德县), Zhejiang Province (zhè jiāng shěng 浙江省), Xuancheng City (xuān chéng shì 宣城市) and Ningguo City (níng guó shì 宁国市). All in all, Jixi County is a place of national histories and cultures.

 Overview

Jixi is a low hilly ground. It's regarded as the backbone in that area, located at the juncture of the banches of Huangshan Mountain and Tianmushan Mountain (tiān mù shān 天目山). To some extent, Jixi is the center of Huizhou Culture. It's Jixi County that shines in Huizhou Culture. It is a beautifully garden with various antique villages, breathtaking Ancestral Hall and tranquil countryroads. In a sense, Huizhou Culture is a culture of business. The businessmen from Jixi became well known in Ming and Qing Dynasty (míng qīng shí qī 明清时期) when people always said that "there's no market without Jixi Businessmen (wú jì bú chéng jiē 无绩不成街)". Besides, Jixi is also a museum of folklores. There are more than 300 historical spots in Jixi now. In addition, this county is also famous for the Hus. Many historical figures like Hu Xueyan (hú xuě yán 胡雪岩), Hu Kaiwen (hú kāi wén 胡开文), Hu Shi (hú shì 胡适), a key contributor to Chinese liberalism and language reform in his advocacy for the use of written vernacular Chinese. and so on were from here whose residences are now in good condition.

Jixi Longchuan

According to what has been recorded, Longchuan (lóng chuān 龙川) is the former name of Kengkou village (kēng kǒu cū 坑口村). This name derived from the Longxu Mountain (lóng xū shān 龙须山) in front of the village and a stream following through it. At present, it belongs to conservation of historic sites of Anhui Province. The village enjoys not only a long history but also green mountains and limpid rivers. Furthermore, Longchuan village (龙川村) is also famous for a gathering of talents. Hence a Jinshi village (jìn sh 进士; Successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations). Longxu Mountain, situated on the east of the village, is abundant with Chinese alpine rush, rare rocks and animals, abrupt ridges, rugged roads and waterfalls. On the west of the mountain, there is an ancient samadi. So Longchuan is also an favorable place for religious tourists.

Transportation: There is a shuttle bus from Jixi County to Longchuan Village every twenty minutes and it costs CNY 2.5 per persom.

Official Risidence of Hu Zongxian

Hu Zongxian (hú zōng xiàn 胡宗宪) was the first to put Diaoyu Island (diào yú dǎo 钓鱼岛) into China's map. His official residence is just located in Longchuan. It is featured by pink walls, black roofs, green waters and picturesque scenery. The whole area, is like a small society or a big labyrinth, where in Ming Dynasty (míng cháo 明朝), residents in it can do almost everything inside the walls. Unlike Beijing Palace (běi jīng gù gōng 北京故宫) which is spectacular and bold, Official Hu Zongxian Risidence (hú zōng xiàn shàng shū fǔ 胡宗宪尚书府) is much more elegant and delicate with exquisite wood carvings on every windows, doors and beams.

Zhangshan Canyon

As an ec-demonstration region of UN, Zhangshan Canyon (zhàng shān dà xiá gǔ 障山大峡谷) is blessed woth forest coverage to a level of 97%. It's the border of Wu Country (wú guó 吴国) and Yue Country (yuè guó 越国) in Spring and Autumn Period (chūn qiū shí qī 春秋时期). With no less than 43 kinds of rare species, the canyon also shares rather special whether. The crystal like waterfalls like 108 fairies dancing in this area. On the southwest of the mountain is Zhangyan (zhàng yán 障岩), a enormous rock looked like a huge clock on the mountain and sticking into the sky. It's now being estimated as the biggest rock in the world. What's more, the statue of Mao Zedong (máo zé dōng 毛泽东) is just located in the area. It's not a carved one, but natural. The whole stone, considering its form and expression, is very similar to the profile of the aged President. What's coincident is that, the stone was found on the 26th December which is the birth date of President Mao.
