Event Summary:
AgrochemEx (quán guó nóng yào jiāo liú huì jì nóng huà chǎn pǐn zhǎn lǎn huì 全国农药交流会暨农化产品展览会) is an annual agrochemical symposium and exhibition organised by the China Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA) that was born in Nanjing. With the growing interest of international companies in both domestic opportunities and sourcing of technical and formulated products from Chinese producers, AgrochemEx has moved to Shanghai in 2009. This year, it will take place again in Shanghai Everbright Convention and Exhibition Center during October 20 – 22, 2010. Besides, as AgroChemEx 2010 falls on the exhibition period of the Expo 2010 Shanghai, more than 200 countries and international organizations have promised to participate so far. Conference Profile:
1) Agrochemical R&D – hard work and money is not enough (Dr Rob Bryant, Agranova)
The talk will concentrate on the scientific and technological challenges rather than an analysis of the money spent by various companies over the past 10-20 years. It will compare the way agrochemical R&D was successfully carried out in the twentieth century and highlight what this experience can teach those involved in research in the twenty-first century.

2) Impact of the new regulation and new supervision environment on the development trend of global formulation market
The new regulations here will include EU Directive 91/414, Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009, REACH, the Biocidal Products Directive 98/8/EC, GHS（Globally Harmonized System of classification and Labelling of Chemicals）and etc.

3) Natural products as leads for New and Innovation
Many plant and microbial natural products have become commercial pesticides (for example, pyrethrins and synthetic pyrethroids from Pyrethrum daisy, azadiractin from the neem tree, avermectin from the microbe Streptomyces avermitilis, and spinosyn from the microbe, Saccharopolyspora spinosa). The natural world can provide alternatives to existing chemicals both in the short and long term.

4) New thinking in formulation R&D
Some good pesticide formulation technologies will be shared by experts from Syngenta ……

5) “Plant Health Care (PHC)”
A healthy plant is the best defense against most insect pests. Some successful products that fit the Plant Health Care concept will be introduced.

6) Observation of the products coming off-patent in the global market
There are various competitive products on a global basis with considerate annual sales that will come off-patent in the next several years. However, some of them may still see a prosperous market while some may see market decline ahead. This report is expected to help companies to make good decisions on this.

7) A novel insecticide sulfoxaflor
This report will present basic information about the activity of sulfoxaflor against various pests, and its lack of cross-resistance to existing insecticides, such as imidacloprid. It is to be launched in 2010.
