Dongpo Academy (dōng pō shū yuàn 东坡书院) is locate in Danzhou City (dān zhōu shì 儋州市) of Hainan Province (hǎi nán shěng 海南省). It was originally built in 1098 during the Northern Song Dynasty (běi sòng 北宋) in memorial of Su Dongpo (sū dōng pō 苏东坡), a well-known literateur. It is now a tourist attraction in Hainan.

Dongpo Academy once took the highest seat of learning, cultivated many personnels. The academy is facing south, with a dignified door, which is unique and quaint. Above the door, there are four Chinese characters “东坡书院"(dōng pō shū yuàn), written by Zhang Ji (zhāng jì 张绩), a candidate in the Qing Dynasty (qīng cháo 清朝). In the courtyard of the academy, there is a clean pond, on which a bridge spanning, leading you to the Zaijiu Pavilion (zǎi jiǔ tíng 载酒亭). Zaijiu Pavilion is covered with green tiles. On the roof of the pavilion, there are the paintings about the life of Su Dongpo, which are vivid and true to life. On both side of the pavilion, there are the lotus pond, in which there are the gold fish.

Deep into the courtyard, there is the Zaijiutang (zǎi jiǔ táng 载酒堂). It is the place where Su Dongpo once teaching and meeting friends. As the main architecture of the academy, the hall has 13 tablets which were written by celebrities. On the rear wall of the hall, there are two marble stone inscriptions. One was inscribed by Song Lian (sòng lián 宋濂), a letterateur in the Ming Dynasty (míng cháo 明朝), and another is the picture of Su Dongpo, painted by Tang Yin (táng yín 唐寅), a famous painter.

The last part of the academy is the Great Hall (dà diàn 大殿). In the center of the hall, there is a group of statues of Su Dongpo and his son, made of glass fiber reinforced plastics. Besides, there are the exhibits of the sketch painte and written by Su Dongpo.

Trasportation: you can take bus No. 3 in Danzhou and get off to Juntun (jūn tún 军屯), and then take another bus to Zhonghe Town. When you arrived at the town, yocan hire a car to Dongpo Academy, or go to there by walk.
