The most attractive scene in the square is the fountain sculpture---- the southern bead soul (nán zhū hún 南珠魂), which is regarded as the symbol of Beihai. It was sculptured by famous sculptor, Ye Shan (yè shān 叶山). It is unique and at the same time beautiful. The white seashell which is 15 meters high open toward three sides. In the center of the shell, there is a stainless ball, whose diameter is 1.4 meters. Around the sea shell, there are three bronze statues which represent the Beihai people. Every statue has its own meaning. The statue of an old fisherman who was riding a seahorse represents the father of the sea; the one of the young girl, who is holding a luminous bead and lying on a big fish represents the god of pearl; the third one is a strong man, who is bestriding on a huge torture and sounding the shell trumpet, represents the son of the sea. The sphere exhibition hall was originally a giant reservoir. It became the exhibition all after rebuilding. The structure of the exhibition hall is unique. Nearby is the fountain square and is used for holding literary arts meeting. Every corner in the square is showing the tourist the unique scenery of sub-tropical. Around the square, it is the busiest business center. When the night falls, all the lights are on. The big pearl in the sea shells is shinning. The fountains makes the scenery much more gorgeous.
