In March 2009, China Merchants Bank and Bain Wealth Consulting released its Chinese fortune report. By the end of 2009, the report states that there will
be 320,000 high net worth income individuals with more than 10 million RMB investable assets, with a growth of 6% year on year. Therefore the luxury goods market which in the past was centred on Europe, Japan and the USA, has started to shift the focus towards China. Today China is a country where people desire to live a lavish lifestyle, and they now have the means to do so. According to the report of Le Figaro, by 2011, China will take a quarter share of the world’s luxury goods market, taking the place of Japan.
