Yellow Dragon Cave Dressed in Green
The Yellow Dragon Cave (huáng lóng dòng 黄龙洞) is located in the rear of Qixia Hill (qī xiá shān 栖霞山) in Hangzhou City (háng zhōu shì 杭州市), Zhejiang Province (zhè jiāng shěng 浙江省). It is also called Wumen Cave (wú mén dòng 无门洞), Feilong Cave (fēi lóng dòng 飞龙洞). There is a legend about the cave, a monk named Huikai (huì kāi 慧开) in the Southern Song Dynasty (nán sòng 南宋) came to the site and decided to build a temple and expound the Buddhism. One day, a yellow dragon suddenly appeared and hit the ground. Then the place miraculously turned out to be what we see today. Although called "cave", it is actually a simple and elegant yard. Now Yellow Dragon Cave Dressed in Green (huáng lóng tǔ cuì 黄龙吐翠) was listed as one of the New Ten Scenic Spots of West Lake (xī hú 西湖). In 2001 and 2002, Yellow Dragon Cave was awarded as the best park in Hanghzou City.

Yellow Dragon CaveThe gate of the Yellow Dragon Cave was inscribed with an antithetical couple. With wooded hills behind, the yard features serene and mysterious beauty. It arranged streams, caves, pavilions and rockeries harmoniously. In the yard, you can see Pavilion of Fragrant Snow (xiāng xuě tíng 香雪亭), Pavilion of Standing Crane (hè zhǐ tíng 鹤止亭) and a dragonhead molded on a cliff. Spring water comes out from the dragonhead and flows into the pond below. Beside the spring, the quotation written by the famous poet Liu Yuxi (liú yǔ xī 刘禹锡) was engraved on the rock, "Regardless of the depth of the pool, as long as a dragon in it (shuǐ bú zài shēn, yǒu lóng zé líng 水不在深,有龙则灵)."

Yellow Dragon CaveOn the opposite side of the pool, there is a small courtyard which has various kinds of bamboos. For example, Square Bamboo (fāng zhú 方竹), Mottled Bamboo (bān zhú 斑竹), Arhat Bamboo (luó hàn zhú 罗汉竹), Black Bamboo (zǐ zhú 紫竹), Qinsi Bamboo (qín sī zhú 琴丝竹), Piety Bamboo (xiào shùn zhú 孝顺竹) etc.. Among them the most famous one is Square Bamboo, it is a rare ornamental bamboo. On the right of the pool, there is a artificial cave. In which you can see a Yuanstatue of monk Huikai.

In recent years, Yellow Dragon Cave has added the Yuanyuan Folk Park (yuán yuán mín sú yuán 圆缘民俗园). Outside the gate, you can see a stone inscribed with a big character Yuan (yuán 缘), the stone is four meters in height and seven meters in width. It seems to tell people that people meet because of predestined relationship. Walking through the gate, there is a Touyuan Pool (tóu yuán chí 投缘池). Six boys dressed in ancient costume were in the pool, they respectively represent Yin Yuan (yīn yuán 姻缘), Qing Yuan (qíng yuán 情缘), Cai Yuan (cái yuán 财缘), Zi Yuan (zǐ yuán 子缘), Wen Yuan (wén yuán 文缘) and Shi Yuan (shì yuán 仕缘). Standing on the character which you would like to make wish, throw the coin into the corresponding cave. Then it will bring good luck to you.

Square BambooThere is a historical courtyard called Happiness Garden (xǐ yuán 禧园) in the park. Many distinctive arts and crafts stores and tea houses are displayed on the two sides of the courtyard. In the center of the yard you can see a big stage. Everyday the famous opera in Kangnam - Yueju Opera, will be performed here. For example, Flirting Scholar (táng bó hǔ diǎn qiū xiāng 唐伯虎点秋香), Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai (liáng shān bó yǔ zhù yīng 梁山伯与祝英台), The Crimson Palm (xuè shǒu yìn 血手印) and so on. They were loved very much by the broad masses.
