Sustainable development of the footwear industry in Guangdong

After 20 years of development, China has become the world's largest producer of footwear; and shoe industry in Guangdong is more close to half of the production of the country occupying an important position.

According to the State General Administration of Customs statistics, in January 2008 to April of China's export value of footwear merchandise for 8.48 billion U.S. dollars, an 11.6 percent increase over the same period last year. Last year, the Chinese footwear production more than 10 billion pairs, of which exports 8.5 billion pairs of the international market, an increase of about 9%. The total value of exports reached 25.3 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of about 16%, while footwear exports in Guangdong last year, about 9.58 billion U.S. dollars.

At present, Guangdong has more than 6,000 shoe-making enterprises, and products are mainly sold in domestic market and export to the United States at all levels, the European Union, Hong Kong, Japan, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, South Korea and other countries and regions, covering most of the world's major consumer market. In addition, the footwear industry has been driven on the development of a number of downstream industries such as leather, chemicals, plastics, metals, machinery and equipment and other related industries.

In recent years even though there were some negative factors, but the footwear industry in China and Guangdong still maintained the advantage of continued growth. Main reasons:

1. Guangdong shoes have a larger competitive advantage, such as lower cost of production of good quality, rich variety of shoes;

2. Has a strong R & D and production capacity and market development;

3. Industry complete and perfect the circulation outstanding advantages.
