Let's Be Friends
Foreigners in China
Qingzi Jingbo said she likes red best, but she didn't wear anything in red when I saw her. She laughed joyously, pointed to her hat and said that it looked nicer to match like this; I suddenly became fond of this girl who was of the same age with me.

She wore a big pair of glass, but I guessed that she was not shortsighted; as she couldn't understand me she would wink wittily, and nearsighted people won't do this very often.

Qingzi came from Nagoya, 21 years old, and has been to Beijing for 3 months. She was walking towards the dinning hall when I came across her. Accustomed to foreign students in twos and threes, I questioned her curiously:" Where are your friends?" She spent a little while to organize language and told me with gesture:" She got a bellyache, I'll take lunch for her after I have mine."

She was the only one who could immediately count out a lot of things she liked after she told me that she liked Beijing very much. Due to the difference in pronunciation, she got some difficulties in saying places she has been to in Beijing and had to use her fingers to help: Tian'anmen, The Temple of Heaven, The Summer Palace, The Great Wall and many museums… I asked her about the unpleasant points such as were there too crowd? She said in a ease, no , there were lots of people, but it was very exciting and lively.

My foreign teacher who has stayed in Japan told us that he personally insisted that Japanese Cuisine was better than Chinese Cuisine, so I dare not to ask her about the food. But she began to tell me:" The food here is very delicious, err," in a lovely gesture as usual,” there's many delicious food!"

When asked about books and magazines she was reading, she shook her hands ashamedly and said she couldn't read that much now. "Then do you listen to Chinese song?" I questioned. “Yes, Jolin," she took my notebook and wrote it down, but she couldn't write the other. Judging form what she had done, I guessed it was Chenglin Yang.

She said it was a pity that she should leave Beijing in the middle of July, and uttered, like she was making up her mind, that she would certainly go to visit the Thirteen Ming Tombs before leaving. "Oh, and the Pandas," she said," I like them so much, they are really very lovely."

I didn't disturb her for long, for her sick friend was waiting for her. However, I asked her for her email address when we took photo together, deciding to send to the photo and what I would write. Thinking about her

confusing face on the way back, I couldn't help knocking my head. Facing so lovely Qingzi, how could I forget to tell her that "Let's be friends!" — The first time I asked a foreigner, and a sincere invitation a Chinese girl sent to a Japanese girl.
