The Guangzhou International Beauty & Cosmetic Import-Export Expo is jointly organised by Guangdong International Exhibitions Ltd and the Guangdong Beauty & Cosmetic Association. The expo inaugurated in 1989, and is the longest established. It has taken place twice a year since 1996, with the edition that took place in September 2008 being the 29th.
The Guangzhou International Beauty & Cosmetic Import-Export Expo is the most influential beauty trade event in China. With thirteen specialised exhibit zones, the expo attracts visitors from all over China, Asia, Europe, Americas and the Pacific region. The expo covers all segments of the beauty and hair industry. In addition, beauty schools, trade media, trade offices, alliances and associations also participate in the fair, making it even more diverse and professional. In recent years, each edition recorded over 200,000 entries by trade buyers and professional visitors. The Guangzhou Beauty Expo has become one of the best known beauty industry event in the world.
The show period has also been dubbed the “Guangzhou International Beauty Festival” due to the large number of industry and corporate events that are held around and about the expo. Companies organise press conferences, seminars, new products presentations and other promotional functions starting from as early as two weeks before the opening of the expo to capitalize on the buzz generated by the excitement and anticipation of the show. Over 400 such conferences and activities take place alongside each edition of the expo, making the time of the expo an important period for information exchange for China’s beauty industry.
The China Market
The China economy has developed rapidly since its entry to the WTO and beauty products have become a daily necessity for many as their quality of life improves. The annual sales of beauty and cosmetic products in China has attained over RMB 50 billion and the annual growth rate is in the double digits.
Following WTO entry, the import tariffs on beauty and cosmetic products have also been lowered every year, from 55% before the entry to the present 10~15%. This has opened up a massive market of 1.4 billion people for foreign companies.

The Guangzhou International Beauty & Cosmetic Import-Export Expo was the earliest beauty and cosmetic trade fair in China and it is of the largest scale, has the highest number of exhibitors, the widest range of exhibits, the best decorated stands and the richest programme of seminars, performances and complementary events.
