Xiamen University was founded in 1921 by Tan Kah Kee, the well-known patriotic overseas Chinese leader. It was the first university in China founded by an overseas Chinese. At present it is the only university in any of five special economic zones and is one of China 's higher-level universities designated for the state key construction of the “211 Project” and the “985 Project”. Currently, Professor Zhu Chongshi is the President of the University and Professor Zhu Zhiwen is the Chairman of the University Council.

Over the past eighty–seven years, as the result of following the school motto: Pursue Excellence, Strive for Perfection , Xiamen University has accumulated rich experience in offering its educational programs and has presented its distinctive features in running the programs. Equipped with a strong team of faculty and staff, Xiamen University, which provides a fairly complete range of programs of education, has become a first-class comprehensive university in China with extensive international influence. Since its founding, Xiamen University has produced more than 150,000 undergraduates and graduates for the country and over 60 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) have studied or worked at Xiamen University.

Xiamen University has a graduate school and 22 schools containing 60 departments. With 14 Doctoral degrees in first –class disciplines, and 17 Master degree in first-class disciplines, the university offers 79 undergraduate programs, 219 graduate programs, and 134 PhD programs. 14 subjects have been assessed and awarded as “the national key disciplines”. There are 15 Post doctoral research centers, 9 subjects of “national educational centers for talents”, 11 subjects listed among the state key disciplines in the "211 Project” construction during the period of the tenth Five-year plan and11 subjects listed among the innovation research bases in the second phase of the “985 Project”.  

厦门大学是由著名爱国华侨领袖陈嘉庚先生于1921年创办的,是中国近代教育史上第一所华侨创办的大学,也是我国唯一地处经济特区的国家“211工程”“985工程”重点建设的高水平大学。

87年来,学校秉承“自强不息,止于至善”的校训,积累了丰富的办学经验,形成了鲜明的办学特色,成为一所学科门类齐全、师资力量雄厚、居国内一流、在国际上有广泛影响的综合性大学。建校迄今,已先后为国家培养了15万多名本科生和研究生,在厦大学习、工作过的两院院士达60多人。

学校设有研究生院和22个学院(含60个系)和9个研究院,拥有14个博士学位授权一级学科,17个硕士学位授权一级学科,134个专业可招收培养博士研究生,219个专业可招收培养硕士研究生,79个专业可招收本科生;拥有5个一级学科和9个二级学科的国家级重点学科(涵盖38个二级国家重点学科),15个博士后流动站,9个国家人才培养基地。

Overseas Education College (OEC) is the institution of higher learning in Xiamen University specialized in overseas education. Founded in 1956 and formerly known as Overseas Correspondent College and other names, it is one of the oldest institutions in China offering teaching programs for overseas students. OEC got its present name in 1991 with the approval from the Ministry of Education. OEC includes the Department of Chinese, Distance Education Center, Office of Overseas Students, Research Institute of Overseas Chinese Education, etc. It is one of the four national Southeast-Asia-oriented Chinese teaching bases in China and one of the key institutions designated by the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs of the State Council to support China’s neighboring countries in teaching Chinese.

Since its establishment, the Overseas Education College has enrolled more than 20,000 overseas correspondence students and over 6,500 overseas students from more than 90 countries and regions. Therefore, the Overseas Education College has been praised for "imparting knowledge all over the world and thus gaining a good reputation throughout the five continents".

海外教育学院是厦门大学专门从事对外办学的高等教育机构,也是中国最早开展对外教育的机构之一。学院创建于1956年,曾使用华侨函授部、海外函授部、海外函授学院等名称,1991年经教育部批准定名为海外教育学院。学院现设有华文系、海外学生部、远程教育部、海外汉语言文化教育研究所、日本研究所等机构,是国家汉办支持周边国家汉语教学重点院校之一,也是国务院侨办华文教育基地之一。

学院负责各类留学生的汉语教学与海外华文师资的培训。经过五十年的发展,学院已经形成面向世界、面向东南亚,来华面授学习与中文远程教学并举的教学特色。在高层次学生培养方面,学院开展汉语言专业(经贸方向、文化方向)本科教学,招收语言学与应用语言学专业(对外汉语教学方向、中外语言文化比较方向)、传播学专业(中华文化与传播方向)硕士生,并与人文学院中文系联合招收文艺学专业(文艺传播学方向)博士生

作为国家汉语国际推广领导小组办公室(国家汉办)审定的海外孔子学院建设单位之一,我院(校)已经在海外建成泰国皇太后大学孔子学院。作为国家汉办指定的海外汉语师资培训点之一,我院已经完成数批共1000多人的海外汉语教师培训项目。作为国家汉语水平考试委员会指定的汉语水平考试(HSK)考点之一,我院已经在我校成功组织数次海外学生参加的汉语水平考试。

The 2009 spring semester of regular Chinese program will start on Feb. 13th, 2009. Please apply before the application deadline, Dec. 31st, 2008. If you want to apply after the deadline, please contact us for more advice.

Registration dates: Feb. 13th & 14th, 2009

Placement test: Feb. 16th, 2009

Opening ceremony: Feb. 16th, 2009

Class hours: (Monday to Friday):
8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
13:00 a.m. - 14:30 p.m.
14:40 p.m. - 16:10 p.m.

Registration Fee: 400RMB

Tuition Fee: 8000RMB/semester.

Other costs:
Accommodation: about 900-1500RMB/month/person.
Meals: about 600RMB for meals per month.
Textbook fee: based on the courses you take, about 300RMB per semester.
Insurance premium: about 600 RMB
There might be some other expenses, but it won't be much.
Application requirements:
High school graduates or above, healthy, 18 years old to 55 years old.

Application procedures:
Download Application Form for Chinese Language Students at http://oec.xmu.edu.cn/file/Applc.doc or call/email/visit us for the application form.

Fill the form in detail especially names, passport number, birthday, address, contact, major and length of study. Typing on a computer is suggested. Please make sure the script is clear if you need to fill it by hand.

Email us the application form and passport copy with “application” as the email topic. Application by fax, letter or office visit is also acceptable.

Qualification check is done as soon as your application is received. We will notify you of the qualification-check result by email/telephone. Please call us if you don’t received reply from us one week after application.

After qualification check, we will make the admission notice and visa application form (Jw202), submit them to the university and then to the city government for approval and mail them to the address in your application form as soon as they are ready. Usually it takes 30-45 days to receive the documents after your application is qualified.

Bring in person your passport, photos, admission notice and visa application form to the local Chinese embassy for Student Visa (X visa, it should be changed into residence permit within 30 days after entry) or Visiting Visa (F visa, it can be changed into residence permit before expiry). Physical examination report and other documents might be required in some countries. You can do it in a local qualified hospital and bring all original health check reports to XMU for visa change. Physical Examination Record of Foreigner can be available at http://oec.xmu.edu.cn/file/Health.doc.

Bring your passport, original physical examination record (if there is), 10 two-inch photos, admission notice, visa application form (Jw202), graduation certificate and HSK certificate (if there is) to OEC for registration on dates stipulated in admission notice. Please come to OEC as soon as you enter China, or your visa might run out before it is extended.  

Hints:
If you apply after the deadline, please submit the application form to us by email or by fax. If your application is approved, please do the health check at a local qualified hospital and come to XMU with a tourist visa (L visa). Remember to go through registration procedures as soon as you enter China. Usually, we can help you apply for residence permit within one month after registration.  

If you have certain Chinese language background, you might be allowed to join the class after the semester begins. Please follow the procedures listed in Hint 1.
Long term Chinese language students can apply to join undergraduate or junior college Chinese program. If it is approved, the credits they achieved can be transferred to the undergraduate or junior college program after certain procedures.  

Tuition fee can not be refunded if you paid for one semester or less and decide to give up your study in OEC. If you paid for more than one semester and report to OEC about your decision to quit your study before the next academic term starts, the exceeding part can be returned to you according to relevant regulations of XMU.

新学期招生中:
09年春季学期:09年2月13日至09年7月24日,劳动节和端午节放假。
新生到校注册日期:2009年2月13日和14日。
开学典礼:2009年2月16日。
分班考试时间:2009年2月16日。

申请资格:
1、 年满18周岁,身体健康的外籍人士;
2、 高中及高中以上学历

费用统计:
学费:8000元/学期,16000元/学期
报名费:400元,只在新生第一学期收取。
教 材 费:每学期约300元人民币(个人根据选课情况自行购买)。
膳 食 费:每月约600元人民币。
保 险 费:海外学生团体综合险,每年600元左右。
住 宿 费:参考住宿安排
到达厦门大学后,新生可在校内银行将学费和报名费存入厦门大学银行账号,其他费用另行缴纳;银行收据在注册时提交,更换为厦门大学统一发票。

授予证书:厦门大学海外教育学院结业证书。

申请步骤:
获取申请表:您可直接从学院网站下载《厦门大学汉语言专业入学申请表》(http://oec.xmu.edu.cn/file/Applc.doc)。如果你不能下载,您可以通过电子邮件、电话、传真、信函向我们索取。
写申请表:请详细填写申请表,英文名字、护照号码、生日、地址、联系方式、学习专业和时间等信息尤为重要;建议下载后直接在电脑上填写,如需笔填,务必确保字迹清晰。
提交申请材料:建议通过电子邮件将申请表和护照复印件发送给我们,请在邮件标题注明“申请”字样。另外,您也可以通过传真、信函或当面提交等方式完成。
资格审查:收到申请表后,我们将审核您的入学申请资格,并尽快通过电子邮件或电话等告知审核结果。如果提交申请后一星期未见回复,请主动联系我们。
寄发录取材料:资格审核完毕后,我们将制作《录取通知书》和《外国留学人员来华签证申请表》(JW202表),并依次上报学校办公室和厦门市政府,获批后按照申请表上的地址邮寄给您。一般情况下,从得到资格审核结果到收到录取通知书和JW202表,大约需要30-45天时间。
办理来华签证:学生本人持护照、照片、《录取通知书》和《外国留学人员来华签证申请表》等到中国驻外使领馆办理来华签证;一般建议办理学生签证(X visa,入境30天内必须更换为居留许可)或访问签证(F visa,入境后有效期内可以更换为居留许可);如果领事馆要求身体检查,可以从学院网站下载体检表(http://oec.xmu.edu.cn/file/Health.doc),在当地正规医院体检,所有体检报告原件须带到厦门以备更改签证之用。
报到注册:请携带护照、《录取通知书》、《外国留学人员来华签证申请表》(JW201/2)、体检表(如果已经做过体检)和10张2寸近期照片,按《录取通知书》指定的注册日期到厦门大学海外教育学院报到注册。为了避免签证过期带来麻烦,请务必在抵达厦门后尽快到学院报到。
温馨提示:

如果您在报名截止时间后申请,请提交《厦门大学汉语言专业入学申请表》,经我院审核同意后,到当地正规医院体检,并办理旅游签证入境;入境后务必直接到海外教育学院办理报到注册手续。我们一般会在一个月内协助办理居留许可。
如果您在学期开始后提出申请,经我院审核同意后,可以插班,条件是您已具有一定的汉语基础。
经学生个人申请、学校批准并办理有关手续,长期汉语进修生可转为汉语言专业专科或本科学历生,原考试合格课程自动转换为相应学分。
缴纳学费后,如因个人原因要求退学,交纳一学期及少于一学期学费的不予退款;交纳多于一学期学费的,超过的部分按照厦门大学相关规定退还。

主干课程:
初级汉语、中级汉语、高级汉语、汉语口语、汉语听力、新闻听力、汉语阅读、汉语写作等。

主干课程介绍:
初级汉语、中级汉语、高级汉语:通过教学、系统讲授汉语的发音技巧和规律、汉字认读和书写,讲授汉语的词汇和语法知识及其应用方法,培养应用汉语进行写作的能力,全面掌握汉语知识,为汉语应用打下坚实的基础。每门课程每周6~10课时。每个级别又分三个等级。
汉语口语:通过专门的教学和充分的练习,在愉快的课程气氛中逐步提高汉语口语交际能力,了解中国人的口语交际技巧。随着汉语水平的提高,能够就有关话题完整、流利地陈述自己的个人观点或与他人交谈,语速不断加快;初步形成用汉语思维的习惯,能根据交际场合和对象的特点选择适宜的表达方式;具有一定的语言应变能力。此类课程每周4~6课时,分初、中、高三个等级。
汉语听力、新闻听力:通过专门的教学和充分的联系,提高汉语听力水平。能更好地在交际中了解说话人的主要意图,具有越来越强的辨别分析能力、联想猜测能力、概括总结能力,能理解语速越来越快的话语,收听题材熟悉的广播电视节目。逐步适应越来越快的语速,适应真实的汉语交际。培养在倾听的过程中吸收新词语、新用法的能力,提高汉语感受能力。此类课程每周约4课时,分初、中、高三个等级。
汉语阅读:通过专门的教学和充分的练习,提高汉语阅读水平。能逐步读懂一般的文艺读物、新闻消息、日常公文信函等。能跳跃障碍,理解大意,掌握要点,理清叙述性文章的线索和层次,能借助标题、关键词、中心句等概括文章的主题,具有利用工具书独立清除疑难障碍的自学能力,并逐步提高阅读速度。此类课程每周约4课时,分初、中、高三个等级。

选课形式:
学院根据学生汉语水平给出选课建议,学生自由选课,每学期24学分以下。

文体活动:
各类联欢活动、汉语比赛、田径比赛、足球比赛、厦门国际马拉松等;组织参观厦门周边城市及中国著名历史文化名城和风景点(费用自理)。
 

其他问题

体检:学生可在当地正规医院体检,体检报告须在注册时验证;亦可入境后在厦门市检验检疫局体检;体检内容参考学院网站的《外国人体格检查表》,
居留许可:持学生签证(X签证)者,须在入境后30天内完成体检和报临时户口(当地派出所),并更改为居留许可;已持有学习居留许可的学生,无需体检,报临时户口后,入学后可直接办理居留许可。
接机:请将名字、日期、时间、航班号用email或传真给我们,接机费用60元左右(取决于人数);从机场自行乘坐的士i到学校,车费也在60元左右;也可乘坐27路或37路巴士到厦门火车站,转乘1路或21路巴士到厦门大学大南校门。
分班:我校汉语生每学期按不同程度分成数十个的班级,从零起点到高级班,通过分班考试决定学生进入哪一个水平的班级,每个班级有不同的课程表。
插班:如果您在注册时间后提出申请,得到肯定答复后,可以插班,条件是您已具有一定的汉语基础。
转学历生:长期汉语进修生可申请转为汉语言专业专科或本科学历生,需要经学校批准并办理有关手续。原考试合格课程自动转换为相应学分。
学生保险:厦门大学指定的留学生团体保险。
