It is the only university, under the direct jurisdiction of China’s Ministry of Education, whose primary responsibility is to teach foreign students Chinese language and culture. Since its establishment more than 40 years ago, BLCU has already served more than 160 countries and regions in the world, teaching Chinese language and culture to over 100 thousand foreigners. Since the beginning of the new millennium, BLCU has more than 9000 foreign students and over 4000 Chinese students studying in the university annually. Within the student population are also many foreign diplomatic officials from various embassies and senior staff of multinational companies.

The International Education Center of BLCU was founded in 2003.To meet the demands of the Chinese language market and cater to the needs of the students, the International Education Center (IEC) relies heavily on BLCU’s rich Chinese teaching resources and quality teaching staff, to research and develop flexible yet effective teaching models.

Since its establishment, it has actively research the market for Chinese language education, continuously experimented different teaching models, as well as developed new innovative teaching ideas and integrative teaching models. Introduction to the Chinese Study Tour Series

The IEC’s Chinese Study Tour Series is designed with foreign students, as well as other Chinese from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and overseas Chinese in mind. Lessons are based primarily on China’s World Cultural Heritage, World Natural Heritage sites, religious cultures, Chinese gardens and parks, etc. as the main topics. Related and secondary topics are on natural scenery and folk cultures. At the same time, Chinese language will be the medium of instruction. The concept of learn as we travel will be implemented, with on-site study. There will also be seminars and performances during the tour. These will expand the students’ Chinese cultural knowledge, help them gain more in-depth understanding of Chinese culture and improve their oral language skills.

This Chinese Study Tour Series is different from traditional Chinese language classes. It will define a new concept in the learning of Chinese language. Its specialty is in its study as you travel concept: to integrate the learning of a language while traveling; to extend indoor classes outdoors and into the natural as well as socio-cultural and historical environments; to learn as one travels, to understand as one experiences, and to improve through discoveries. Being steeped in China’s natural environments, socio-cultures and folk customs, it is inevitable that students will experience true Chinese cultures and have improvements in their communicative abilities.

Lesson plans for IEC’s Chinese Study Tour Series will be designed according to travel routes. All lesson plans will be designed by renowned BLCU Chinese language pedagogy experts and taught by BLCU Chinese language professors. Professionals and scholars from related fields will be invited to give seminars and reports as well.
