According to the research report delivered by Ernst & Young, one of the world's four leading CPA (certified public accountant) firms, China is the world's third biggest consumer of luxury goods. Shanghai has ranked number one among other China cities in terms of sales volume, highlighting the prime position of Shanghai in China's luxury market.

Enormous potential in jewellery retail market
Boosted largely by the steady growth of local economy, Shanghai's consumer demand for jewellery will continue to grow this year, having followed housing and automobiles to become one of the top three categories in the country's luxury consumer market. According to Shanghai Municipal Statistics Bureau, in 2006, the annual retail sales of gold ornaments were RMB4.82 billion, a 20.7 percent increase compared with the preceding year.
