Vinitaly: The World We Love

Vinitaly this year focuses on “the world we love”: wine first of all but also quality, territory, the environment and its protection, people and human challenges, villages and their history... Vinitaly is all this: the place where every year people who love this world come together.

ABOUT VINITALY

From West to East in eight stop-offs, starting in Chicago through to New York, Washington D.C. and Tokyo before moving on to Peking, Shanghai and, lastly, Macao: this is the Autumn programme for the Vinitaly World Tour. The promotional machine is well-oiled and the by-now traditional travels to the USA, Japan and China are joined this year by new and important cities where quality Italian wine will be promoted.

Now at its sixth edition and following the "double-up" with an initial "mission" last February to Miami and Palm Beach in Florida, the Vinitaly US Tour scheduled 27 - 30 October this year takes in not only Chicago but - for the first time - two of the most important American cities: New York - the Big Apple home to new fashions and new trends - and the capital Washington, where political and economic power are truly at home together.

17 November then takes off to the Orient for the third Vinitaly Japan in Tokyo, where Italian wine is winning new market space year after year, with positive trends in terms of volume and value even in the first five months of 2008.

19 November sees Vinitaly land in China, first in Peking, then in Shanghai before completing the tour on 22 November in Macao, an important new stage ten years after the first "transfer" the country of the Great Wall. Exports to the Chinese market have resumed in Macao and its gambling tourism thanks to Italian operators who deserve special merit.

"There is definitely an international economic crisis," said Giovanni Mantovani, Director General of VeronaFiere, "but exports of Italian wine are holding up, with an increase in terms of value in the first five months of the year. Yet it the market share and image of Italian producers are to be maintained, promotional efforts must not only be kept up but even strengthened.

Italian wine still has huge potential thanks to its huge variety and the decidedly excellent general quality of production. This may well encourage diversification on outlet markets: while success and appeal were won thanks to top-of-the-range Italian wines ideal for luxury catering, there is still a great deal of room for quality wines more in line with daily consumption."

The scope of even stronger international promotional activity sees Vinitaly World Tour already schedule a number of innovations also for 2009. These include the new stop-off in San Paolo, Brazil, planned next June.

4,200 reasons for visiting Vinitaly 2008

Italian and international exhibitors over a net area of almost 80 thousand square metres promoting their best production in an overview of the most prestigious wine-growing and wine-making traditions.

This area is equally joined by a further 10,000 sq.m. dedicated to everything else involved in the world of wine: technical tastings, food & wine pairings, high cuisine and much more...

Yet Vinitaly especially promotes business opportunities: the 5-day exhibition ensures more contacts than usually achieved throughout the year thanks to direct matching action: the on-line Buyers Club, the Large-Scale Distribution Buyers Club, workshops and targeted tastings are evident examples.
