Marcello Giordani

Hailed as an extraordinarily versatile artist, and in demand by the world’s major opera houses and symphony orchestras, Marcello Giordani has a repertory which encompasses a wide and diverse range of roles, running the gamut from the Bel Canto heroes of Donizetti and Bellini to the more dramatic roles of Verdi and Puccini, and, more recently, the great vocal works of Berlioz such as La damnation de Faust and Les Troyens.Marcello Giordani completed the 2007-2008 season in the United States with two of the most important and challenging engagements of his career.
Salvatore Licitra

It only took Italian Salvatore Licitra a couple of years to establish himself in the highly sought-after Italian dramatic tenor repertory. A frequent guest at major opera and concert stages in Europe, the United States and Japan, his repertory includes Verdi’s Aida, Un Ballo in Maschera, La Forza del destino and Il Trovatore as well as Puccini’s Tosca, Bellini’s Norma, Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvrer, Giordano’s Andrea Chenier and Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana.Last season Mr. Licitra gave no less than four major role debuts at leading opera houses: Verdi’s Ernani in Berlin and Don Carlos in Los Angeles plus Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci and Puccini’s Il Tabarro at the Metropolitan Opera. The latter, a new production conducted by Maestro James Levine, was broadcast live into movie theaters around the world.

Salvatore Licitra’s 2007-08 season begins with a new production of Giordani’s Andrea Chenier at Opernhaus Zurich as well as three house debuts at the Hamburg State Opera and Catania’s Teatro Bellini -- both in Puccini’s Tosca -- as well as at Bilbao’s ABOA in Verdi’s Aida. Thereafter, the Swiss-born tenor returns to the Metropolitan Opera in December for holiday performances of Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera led by Maestro Gianandrea Noseda. In 2008, Mr. Licitra goes to the Vienna State Opera for a new production of La forza del Destino under the musical direction of Maestro Zubin Mehta.

Ramon Vargas
Ramon Vargas (born 1960) is an award-winning Mexican lyric tenor opera singer. Since his debut in the early '90s, he has developed to become one of the most acclaimed tenors of the 21st Century. Known for his clear and agile lyric tenor voice, he is especially successful in the bel canto repertoire, though has sung heavier parts like Massenet's Werther to great acclaim.

Born in Mexico City, the 7th of 9 children, Ramon Vargas began singing at the age of 9, joining the Boys' Choir of the Basilica of Guadalupe in his home town. He studied at the "Cardenal Miranda Institute" in Mexico City to become a teacher before making his professional debut in 1983 in Joseph Haydn's Lo Speziale, following his win at the 1982 Carlo Morelli National Vocal Competition. He joined the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera in 1986 after winning that year's Enrico Caruso Tenor Competition in Milan, Italy. He now regularly performs at all the major opera houses all over the world.
