Developing Leaders for the 21st Century-- AYF 2008 The Asian Youth Forum

WHAT: A 1-week international youth event which will bring together college-aged young people from across Asia for academic seminars, intercultural workshops, social events and interpersonal exchanges.

WHY: To promote international understanding, intercultural communication and leadership skills through the medium of English-as-an-international-language.

WHERE: The National Olympics Memorial Youth Center in Tokyo, Japan.

WHEN: October 28 (Tuesday) - November 4 (Tuesday), 2008.

WHO: College-aged students (age 18 – 25) from countries in Asia. Special delegations are planned from nations such as Korea, Japan and Thailand. Participants must have a good proficiency in English and an interest in Asian peoples, cultures and issues.

HOST: The AYF will be held as part of a Pan-Asian Conference (PAC 7) on language teaching to be hosted by the Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT).

COSTS: AYF participants will have to pay two costs:
(1) roundtrip travel expenses from their home country to Tokyo, Japan
(2) a participation fee of US $200 (for AYF program, meals & accommodation)

HOW TO APPLY:

<> Students applying as part of an AYF school team or AYF national delegation
should contact their AYF national advisor or AYF college teacher.
<> Students not on AYF teams or delegations may apply on-line using the AYF 6
application form at the AYF website. The deadline is July 15, 2008.

AYF WEBSITE: Our website has information on AYF as well as well as reports and photos from past AYF events (Korea 1999, Japan 2001, China Taiwan 2002, Russia 2004, Bangkok 2007).

Oct 29 <> Day 1 of AYF Program  Opening Ceremony, Local Sightseeing
Oct 30 <> Day 2 of AYF Program  AYF Academic and Social Events
Oct 31 <> Day 3 of AYF Program  AYF Academic and Social Events
Nov 1 <> Day 4 of AYF Program  AYF Academic and Social Events
Nov 2 <> Day 5 of AYF Program  AYF Academic and Social Events
Nov 3 <> Day 6 of AYF Program  AYF Academic and Social Events
Nov 4 <> Day 7 of AYF Program  Closing Ceremony, Farewell Party
Nov 5 <> AYF students return home
