Wanger Mountain

Cimu HouseLong long ago, the suburb of Xiongyue was a beach. A pool family which only had a mother and a son lived there. The mother loved his son very much and in order to let her son go to school, she worked hard. Her son was really hard-working and a couple of years later, he decided to attend an exam far away from home. He promised to come home as soon as he finished his exam. The mother waited at the seaside everyday. Her son actually didn’t attend the exam, he died in the sea on his way. However, his mother never knew. Time flew, the mother got her hair white and still waited at the seaside until at last, she became a stone. The sky was so touched by the mother that it made the place where the mother stood a mountain. The earth was so touched that it made the mother’s tear hot spring. The mountain then was called Wanger Mountain, meaning expecting the son to come back.

Mt. Wanger has more than ten attractions about mother’s love, such as Cimu Xiang (cí mǔ xiàng 慈母像) (The sculpture of loving mother), Wanger Tower, Muen Pool (mǔ ēn chí 母恩池) (Mother’s Kindness Pool) and so on. It has the only memorial hall of mother.

The bridge was built on Lengshui River (lěng shuǐ hé 冷水河) (Cold-Water River) and was stone-made. Lengshui River’s water was extremely cold even in summer, but it never froze even in winter. People thought it magical water, so they called the bridge Xianshui (means magical water). There was a local legend saying that Zhang Guolao had been here once, he was drunk and fell down from his donkey, so there was a handprint of Zhang and a hoof print of his donkey. Then the bridge changed its name to Zhang Guolao Bridge. The bridge was no special, it attracted people only by its beautiful legend. We don’t know when it was built and we can’t see it any more. It is already destroyed now.
