Business Overview
In September 1999, James Cohan Gallery (科恩画廊) opened on West 57th Street with an inaugural exhibition of early work by Gilbert and George. In 2002, the gallery moved to its present location at 533 West 26th Street in Chelsea and maintains a diverse exhibition program with one or two thematic group exhibitions in addition to the solo exhibitions of gallery artists. James Cohan Gallery also established a new gallery space in Shanghai in July 2008. It is located in the heart of the French Concession and occupies the ground floor of 1930s villa set inside of a lane on Yueyang Road.


The gallery represents Bill Viola, Fred Tomaselli, Nam June Paik, Roxy Paine, Beatriz Milhazes, Richard Long, Alan Saret, Yinka Shonibare MBE, Bill Owens, Richard Patterson, Wim Wenders, and the Estate of Robert Smithson along with emerging artists Folkert de Jong, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Ingrid Calame, Tabaimo, Alison Elizabeth Taylor, Yun-Fei Ji, Hiraki Sawa, Erick Swenson, Simon Evans and Xu Zhen (aka MadeIn).
