Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco

(Last updated date: May 29, 2012)

For Morocco and China, 2008 will remain the year of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries. it was the year of the success of the Olympic games organised in Beijing.

More recently, 2010 was a year marked by the organization of the Shanghai Expo2010. on this occasion, the celebration of « Morocco Day » was heightened by the presence of a high ranked Moroccan Delegation led by the Speaker of the Parliament, Mr. Abdelouhad Radi, beside Mr. Taîb Fassi Fihri, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Cooperation, members of the Government and other officials.

According to its long tradition as founder member of the International Bureau of Exhibitions (BIE), Morocco participated to Expo Shanghai 2010 and the Moroccan pavilion according to an architecture that definitely answered the theme chosen for this event as well as it translated out the wealth of Moroccan cultural heritage meeting the same success as in Hannover, Saragosse or Sevilla by welcoming a high number of Chinese visitors.

It is to say, in brief, that in spite of geography constraints, relations between Morocco and China remain intensified, diversified and promising the best.

During this half century of uninterrupted friendly relations, feelings are more and more printed by friendship and mutual respect as confirmed by high rankly visits on both sides.

In fact, Moroccan and Chinese know each other since long time ago, since illustrious Ibn Batouta had walked on the soil of the Empire of the Middle in the XIVth century reporting pearls of information about China, its people and their culture.

Nowadays, Moroccan use names borrowed from some Chinese utensils as “Sinia” (Chinese) to indicate the plate used to serve tea or the “tabsil Taos” a dish with peon painting to raise menus.

In the streets, it is the evocation of Michael Curtiz film Casablanca (1942) that calls back to Chinese this distant country, still for them full of mysteries and unknowns.
But Morocco remains the nearest among the far friend countries of China.

All this to say that the figures indicate that exchanges in all fields become more and more extensive. Chinese products, from the needle to the heavy machine of excavation for public works, or home supplies that are already present on Moroccan daily life without omitting the initiation of the patient or the healthcare professional to the virtues of the traditional Chinese medicine.

On the other hand, can we neglect the presence in China of a confirmed Moroccan elite participating in high specialization programmes, high-tech companies and other research units.

The Internet user is invited to cross the portico provided and helps himself with information about Morocco: a country which chose opening, modernity and authenticity as society foundations.

Our fellow citizens established in China will indeed use this space to keep tied links with home country and integrate the membership of the big family of Moroccans resident abroad.
