The Museum of History of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom is an excellent combination of both museum and garden. A group of remaining buildings in the east constitute the exhibition part of the museum, also it will be wonderful to witness the Zhanyuan Garden (zhān yuán 瞻园) which earned reputation of the best ever garden in Jinling (jīn ling 金陵). Moreover, the Zhanyuan Garden had once been praised as one of the top five most famous classical gardens in the south of Yangtze River (jiāng nán 江南) together with the Yuyuan Garden (yù yuán 豫园) in Shanghai and the Zhuozhengyuan Garden (zhuō zhèng yuán 拙政园) in Suzhou. The name of the garden was given by the emperor Qianlong (qián lóng huáng dì 乾隆皇帝) of Qing dynasty in 1757 when he made his second rounds to the south of Yangtze River and halted there absorbed by the view.

The Zhanyuan Garden has experienced the vicissitudes of the history of more than 600 years, but it is still glowing with the vigour of life. The garden enjoyed quite a reputation in Ming and Qing dynasty because of its 18 fascinating sceneries, such as the plum blossom castle(méi huā wù 梅花坞), the room of old trees (lǎo shù zhāi 老树斋), the depth of the bamboo forest (zhú shēn chù 竹深处) and so on. Now the new 18 fascinating sceneries have sufficiently embodied the simple and unsophisticated beauty of Chinese classical garden.

Imagine a garden with dainty and exquisite pavilions, strange and pleasing rockery, and clear water of blue ripples, verdant vegetation hanging down in clusters and traditional Chinese stringed and woodwind instrumental music. All of above will come true in the historical museum of Taiping heavenly kingdom.
