【解释】瞪大眼睛看着某件你不愿意看见的事情发生,无能为力。
Something you don’t want to see it happen happened, and all you can do is just standing by helplessly and looking on in despair with your eyes wide open.
【例子】
例:看着儿子没出息,尽惹麻烦,爸爸妈妈干瞪眼,没有办法。
Ex.:Their son is such a trouble-maker with no prospect. As parents, they can do nothing but grieve.

兜圈子 Go around in circles
【注音】dōu quān zi
【解释】你或许有过这样的经历,去一个陌生的城市出差或旅游,被出租司机带着在陌生的城市里到处转圈儿,结果你埋怨“怎么这么远”或者“怎么堵车这么厉害?”,而司机高高兴兴地收了你的钱,说“谢谢”。那位司机带着你兜圈子了。如果你和人打交道或谈话,你感到自己被人领着走了太多的弯路,那它就是在跟你兜圈子了。
You may have such experience that in a strange city where you go for a business trip, the taxi driver takes you go round and round, you’re complaining about the long distance or the terrible traffic jam, while the driver is very happy to say “thank you” when you paid. So you know the driver is making a detour on purpose. When you got the same feeling when dealing with or talking to someone, you know he’s beating about the bush.
