螳臂当车 (táng bì dāng chē)

A long time ago,a carter was driving his cart,when a mantis jumped out in front of the cart. Raising its forelegs,it tried to block the way of the cart. The carter thought how ridiculous this inscet was,then moved on forwards. Easy to imagine,the fool but rather bold mantis was crushed by the rolling wheels.

日暮穷途 (rì mù qióng tú)

During the Spring and Autumn Period (春秋 chūn qiū,770 - 221BC),Chu Pingwang (chǔ pěng wǎng 楚平王),the ruler of the state of Chu (chǔ guó 楚国),was notorious for his lechery and arrogance. There were always political infightings and intrigue among the officials. One of the officials named Wu She (wǔ shē 伍奢) fell victim to such competitons since one trecherous offical named Fei Wuji (fèi wú jì 费无忌) spoke ill of him in frount of the king.

临渴掘井 (lín kě jué jǐng )

After the previous overwhelming victories,the ambitious king looked forward to another success-- putting the State of Jin (jìn guó 晋国) into his own pocket.
