Hualin Temple
(huá lín sì 华林寺), the cradle of Buddhism in China, is located in Guangzhou (guǎng zhōu 广州), with a long history of more than 1400 years. It is said that Dharma (dá mó 达摩) made his way across the Indian Sea and Pacific Ocean so as to come to China to do missionary work. After his arriving in Guangzhou, he built the Hualin Temple. It is of great significance in cultural exchanges between the China and India.

Lotus Mountain
(lián huā shān 莲花山) is the famous scenic area in Guangdong Province (guǎng dōng shěng 广东省). Located at the riverside of Lion River (shī zǐ hé 狮子河), the mouth Pearl River (zhū jiāng 珠江), Panyu District (pān yú qū 番禺区), Lotus Mountain consists of 48 red hills and has a maximum elevation of 108 meters, covering the area of 2.54 square kilometers. On the mountain there is a Kylin Peak (qí lín fēng 麒麟峰), and the Lotus Mountain is named after the rock which is like lotus in shape on the kylin Peak. With the reputation of Guangdong Great Wall (gǎng dōng cháng chéng 广东长城), the Lotus Mountain is of great military importance in history.

Shishi Sacred Heart Cathedral
(shí shì shèng xīn dà jiào táng 石室圣心大教堂) is located onYide Road (yī dé lù 一德路) in Guangzhou (guǎng zhōu 广州), beside the Pearl River (zhū jiāng 珠江). Built in 1863 and completed in 1888, the Shishi Sacred Heart Cthedral is of more than 100 years. Because of all the church walls and pillars are made of granite stone, it is also known as the "Sarcophagus"(shí shì 石室) or "Sarcophagus Sacred Heart of Jesus Church”(shí shì yē sū shèng xīn táng 石室耶稣圣心堂), "Sarcophagus Catholic Church”(shí shì tiān zhǔ jiào tang 石室天主教堂). With its magnificent arches, tall towers, window lattices with floral designs, the cathedral is the most distinctive in Guangzhou, and it attracts many people all over the world.

Shantou (shàn tóu 汕头) is a city of 4,971,000 permanent inhabitants (as at end 2006) in coastal eastern Guangdong Province (guǎng dōng shěng 广东省), occupying an area of 2,064 sq. km. With its immediately surrounding cities of Jieyang (jiē yáng 揭阳) and Chaozhou (cháo zhōu 潮州), the metropolitan region - known as Chaoshan (cháo shàn 潮汕) - covers an area of 10,404 sq.km. and had a permanent population of 13,139,800 at the end of 2006.
