The museum is situated in Wanping County (wǎn píng chéng 宛平城) near the Lugou Bridge (lú gōu qiáo 卢沟桥) where the July 7th Event took place. Set up in 1987, the museum is composed of three comprehensive halls, three specialized halls (atrocities of Japanese army, the People's war, and the anti-Japanese heroes) and one half-panorama art gallery. 

It houses 3800 photos and materials, and 5000 cultural relics (wén wù 文物). The comprehensive halls display the whole process of Anti-Japanese War. The specialized exhibition on Japanese army's atrocities includes the recovered scenes of notorious 731 bacteria army and Nanjing Massacre (nán jīng dà tú shā 南京大屠杀).
The Memorial Hall of the Chinese People's Anti-JapaneseThe exhibition on the people's war retrieves the grand scenes of the brave struggles and the movements to save the nation from extinction. Introductions to the famous Taierzhuang, Pingxingguan and 100-Battalion campaigns can also be found on the exhibition.

In the hall of heroes in anti-Japanese war, the brave stories of Yang Jingyu (yáng jìng yǔ 杨靖宇), Zhao Yiman (zhào yī màn 赵一曼), Zuo Quan (zuǒ quán 左权), Peng Xuefeng (péng xuě fēng 彭雪枫), Zhang Zizhong (zhāng zì zhōng 张自忠), Tong Linge (tóng lín gé 佟麟阁), and Zhao Dengyu (zhào dēng yǔ 赵登禹) are introduced. In the gallery, modern video-audio technologies are adopted to vividly simulate the battle field of July 7th Event.
