Jingyuetan Forest National Park

Jingyue Lake National Forest Park (jìng yuè tán guó jiā sēn lín gōng yuán 净月潭国家森林公园) covers 200 square kilometers, with over 4.3 square kilometers water surface and 80 square kilometers planted forest. Forestation coverage in the park is 58.6%. The lake is falcate, so it gets the mane. It is famous for its picturesque scenery, reputed as the sister of Sun-moon Lake of Taiwan Province. A vast sea of lush trees and chains of magnificent mountains form a rounded ecosystem with over 30 tree species. The whole scenic area consists of Jinyuetan National Key Scenic Spot, Jinyuetan National Park and Jinyuetan Tourist and Vocation Area.  
 
Overview
Jingyuetan's GateChangchun Jingyuetan National Forest Park is located in the transitional area between the north mountain area and the west plain in Jilin Province. With an altitude of 220m to 406m, the park is situated on the upland on the extension of the Changbai Mountain (cháng bái shān 长白山). It is in the southeast part of Changchun Urban District and 9km away from the center of the city. The transportation is pretty convenient, with two expressways passing the spot: the Changji (cháng jí 长吉) Expressway and the Hada (hā dá 哈达) Expressway. The construction of Jingyuetan reservoir started in 1934 in order to provide urban water supply and the reservoir was put into use two years later. Changchun people are always deeply concerned about Jingyuetan for its close relationship with people's living conditions. Through the years, numerous workers have planted forests of larches, Chinese pines and Korean pines, bringing about man-planted coniferous forests, which help conserve the water supply. Gradually came into being the complete forest ecological system, containing a 10 square kilometers forested area in which more than 30 kinds Jingyuetan National Forest Parkof trees grow. Thanks to the excellent ecological environment including manmade forests and large water area, in 1988 Jingyuetan was approved by the State Council as a National Key Tourist Attraction and in the following year listed by the Forest Department as a national-level forest park.
Nature endows Jingyuetan with beautiful colors and Jingyuetan in return adds romantic charm to nature. This tourist attraction is a comprehensive combination of the forest scenery, the Ice and Snow Tour, the natural landscape of the lake and hills, the Guandong (guān dōng 关东) (Northeast China) culture and history. With the construction of Jingyue Ice & Snow Tourist Zone, Water Recreational Zone, Guandong Specialty Zone, Safari Park, Science-popularized Educational Zone and Forest Recreation Zone, Jingyuetan National Forest Park is regarded as an ideal place for outing in spring, vacation in summer, sight seeing in autumn as well as winter sports in winter. This park has successfully held several Ice and Snow Tour Festivals, being the first to make up for the vacancy of winter tour projects in the majority of tourist attractions in China. Due to the emphasis on the unique characteristics of the natural resources, the most Jingyue Lakeoptimum distribution of resources and scientific management, the reception capacity has increased year by year. The number of visitors increased every year, with more than 500 thousand each year recently. With years of construction, the Jingyuetan Forest Park has gradually become an ideal spot that has multiple functions: catering, vacation, entertainment and body building. Combined with the beautiful natural landscape, it serves as a comprehensive and high-standard tourism spot.
 
Attractions
The Sand Beach Bathing Spot
The Sand Beach Bathing SpotIt is on the northwest bank of the Jingyue Lake, occupies an area of up to 10 thousand square meters. This spot, at the foot of the mountains and near the lake, is a well-known artificial bathing spot. The bright sunshine, the fine sand and pretty tents make up of a unique beach that only exists in the north. The water is blue and clear, the water surface broad and large. Besides swimming in the lake, visitors can have fun in the Water Amusement Park, in which 18 different bridges are built; each one unique in shape.
 
Jingyuetan DamJingyuetan Reservoir Dam (jìng yuè tán shuǐ kù dà bà 净月潭水库大坝)  
It is which was constructed more than half a century ago; you arrive at the yacht wharf on the east side of the lake. This is a good fishing place and people can go boating in enclosed waters which ensure security.
 
The Bisong Jingyue Pagoda (bì sōng jìng yuè tǎ 碧松净月塔) 
Bisong PagodaIt is a landmark building, can be seen from anywhere in the Jingyuetan National Forest Park. It is located on the Guantan Mountain (guān tán shān 观谭山) on the east of the Jingyuetan Dam. The architecture is made up of the pagoda and the bell tower. It was completed on July 8th, 2000, the 200th anniversary of Changchun City. The shape of the architecture is like a pine tree, with eaves and porches intertwined. The creativity of this architecture is its conception of the plant. The 50.2m-tall pagoda is adored by visitors because its fresh and classical style caters to both refined and popular tastes.
 
Taiping Bell TowerThe Taiping Bell Tower (tai píng zhōng lóu 太平钟楼) 
It is standing next to the pagoda, was constructed in 1991, a testimony of a successive decade in Jilin Province without serious forest fire. In the 18m-tall tower hangs an alloy bell, which is 2.5m tall, 1.8m in diameter and 4 tons in weight. It is well known for its deep booming sound. "The ringing of the bell brings peace and security." It is said that a peaceful life will be bestowed upon the one who rings it. Thus, this spot has become a must stopover of visitors.
 
The Beiputuo Temple (běi pǔ tuó sì 北普陀寺)
Beiputu TempleIt is situated on the north bank of Jingyuetan Lake, was built in 1996 and covers an area of 9200 square meters. Many worshipers come here, reluctant to depart. This temple is well-known in the northeast region. It is an ancient tomb dating back to Jin Dynasty. This spot, valuable for researches on Jin Culture, was approved as one of the Cultural and Historical Sites under Protection of Counties and Cities.
 
Qingsong Ling Scenic Spot (qīng sōng lǐng 青松岭) 
Qingsong LingThis majestic and steep place was the outdoor scene of one of the scenes in the film Qingsong Ling, and this place was named Qingsong Ling Later. Climb over the Qingsong Ling, in which lies the Deer Garden. In the garden live more than 1000 deer of different types: Sika deer (méi huā lù 梅花鹿), Tienshan wapiti (tiān shān mǎ lù 天山马鹿) and Lesser Khingan reindeer (xīng ān lǐng xùn lù 兴安岭驯鹿).
 
Jingyuetan Ice and Snow Tourist Area
RimeThere is the Christmas Park with the theme of "the Hometown of Santa Claus", full of European Culture. Also, the annual Jingyuetan Snow Sculpture Exhibition is held here. The Jingyuetan Skiing Ground, referred to as the "Skiing Ground in the City", combines Cableway, ski run and slide ways together.
 
Bar-forest Bathing SpotNatural Oxygen Bar-forest Bathing Spot
It is in the south end of Huantan Road (huán tán lù 环谭路). The fresh and quiet natural environment is loved by urban people especially. The percentage of oxygen in the air is high, with the proportion of negative oxygen ion 400 to 500 times higher than that in the urban district.
 
Jingyuetan's abundant ecological resource has become a treasure hardly to come by. To protect the forests and the lake, all the buses used for sightseeing are burning environmental-friendly fuels. Other transportation vehicles are applied, such as tandem bicycles and sightseeing horse carriages. These vehicles provide transportation means as well as Jingyuetan in autumnamusement. All the garbage cans and signboards are made basically of wood, which fits perfectly into the scenery in the park. In the first-class ecological environment live more than 60 kinds of birds, such as pheasant, red-billed blue magpie and wild duck; at least 20 kinds of animals such as squirrel, hedgehog, roe deer and fox; and more than 460 types of insects. In each spring, a large number of birds stop over here in the migrating process. The ecological environment in the park provides habitat for endangered species and keeps the ecological balance. The beautiful place is called Jingyuetan National Forest Park which is never let you down.
