Liyu Peak is 68 meters high, 156.3 meters above sea level. The famous litterateur in Tang Dynasty (táng cháo 唐朝) Liu Zongyuan (liǔ zōng yuán 柳宗元) said that the Liyu Peak is small but erects high, like a sitting fish. The peak is also called Stone Fish Mountain (shí yú shān 石鱼山). In the mountain, there are luxurious vegetation, dotted with pavilions and houses. The most famous one are the Green Pine Pavilion (cuì sōng tíng 翠松亭), Guanshan Pavilion (guàn shān tíng 冠山亭), Guanmei Terrace (guān měi gé 观美阁). On the mountain slope, there are the inscriptions on precipices. On the mountain, there are the Qingliang Cave (qīng liáng dòng 清凉洞), Yu Cave (yù dòng 玉洞), Pangu Cave (pán gǔ dòng 盘古洞), Chunyang Cave (chún yáng dòng 纯阳洞), Yinfeng Cave (yīn fēng dòng 阴风洞) and the other two caves connected with each other, called Lingtong Qiqiao (líng tōng qī qiào 灵通七窍). In the Ming Dynasty (míng cháo 明朝) the geographer Xu Xiake (xú xiá kè 徐霞客) was think highly of these caves. On the northeast slope of the mountain, there is the tomb of Dai Qin (dài qīn 戴钦). The following generations built the Jingxian Pavilion (jǐng xián tíng 景贤亭) so as to commemorate of him. Climbing up the mountain along the North Slope, you can see a cave in which there is the statue of Liu Sanjie (liú sān jiě 刘三姐), called Sanjie Rock (sān jiě yán 三姐岩). Out of the cave and turn right, there is the Qingliang Cave, to the right of which there is the Zhongsi Cave (zhōng sī dòng 螽斯洞), while to the left of which there is the Yu Cave. In the left corner of the Yu Cave there is a group of statues of Sanjie singing in antiphonal style. Step into the cave, to the left there is the Chunyang Cave. There are 392 steps in total on the zigzag path which leads you to the top of the peak. Standing on the top, the Liujiang River is like a green belt, and you can take a bird’s view of the whole city. In the cave there preserved more than 40 inscriptions on precipices. At the foot of the Liyu Peak, there is a clean pool called Little Dragon Pool. On the south side of the pool, there is a Stone Museum, in which there exhibits more than 100 species of stone and over 500 competitive products. Liyu Peak is connected with Ma’an Hill by a cable way, which is the only one in the city center within China. Liyu Peak Scenic Area
