Chinese Academy of Science
Colleges and Universities

As a national key university under the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) aimed at cutting-edge science and technology research and sci-tech based management and humanity studies, USTC was founded in September 1958 in Beijing and chaired by CAS president Guo Moruo. In 1970, it moved to Hefei, Anhui province. As the only university attached to the CAS, USTC fully mobilized its departments to strengthen their ties with CAS research institutes and equipped the devoted hard-working students with a profound theoretical foundation as well as practical techniques. In 1959, the university was included on the list of the 16 national key universities and became the youngest key university in China.

The International Affairs Office is the department responsible for international student program publicity and management. The program has experienced teachers for Chinese language and culture. Many bachelor-, master-, and doctoral-degree programs are open to foreign students. The international program also includes visiting students and visiting fellows learning Chinese as a second language as well as short-term components.

There are special international student apartments and foreign guest houses with air conditioners, hot water, telephones, televisions, Internet access, and a kitchen. The students may prepare meals in the apartment or have dinners in the dining room of the guest house. The international students can also go to any of the 14 dining rooms on campuses, all with air conditioners and delicious dishes. In the university there are hospitals, stores, telecom offices and bank branches, gymnasiums and indoor play fields, all open to international students.
