China University of Petroleum - Beijing (CUPB) is a national key university in China, located in the world famous scenic Changping District, the area close to the Great Wall and Ming Tombs. It is one of the 100 institutions implementing the national "211 Project".

The university is equipped with the first-class facilities, including a library with a collection of 300,000 books, modernized classrooms, new computer facilities and a comprehensive sports center.

Above all, CUPB has an excellent academic staff body of 545, including 121 full professors and 128 associate professors 

中国石油大学（北京）的前身是以清华大学石油系、化工系为基础，汇聚天津大学、北京大学等高校的部分师资，于1953年创立的北京石油学院，是新中国第一所石油高等院校。1960年10月，学校被确定为全国重点高校。1969年，学校迁至山东东营胜利油田，更名“华东石油学院”。1981年6月在北京石油学院原校址内成立研究生部。 

1988年学校更名“石油大学”，校本部设在北京，由石油大学（北京）和石油大学（华东）两部分组成。1989年学校在北京恢复招收本科生。1997年，石油大学正式进入国家“211工程”首批重点建设的高等学校行列。2000年，石油大学由中国石油天然气集团公司划归教育部直属。2000年6月，经教育部批准，学校成立研究生院。2003年10月，教育部与四大石油公司签署了共建石油大学的协议。2005年1月，学校更名“中国石油大学”。2006年，以“优秀”的成绩通过教育部本科教学工作水平评估。同年，学校开始建设国家985工程“优势学科创新平台”。2007年，学校以“优秀”的成绩通过北京市党建和思想政治工作评估，并获“单项奖”。

International Office, directly reporting to President, is the only organization to deal with all international affairs and international programs of the university. We aim to develop and administrate all international programs at CUPB.

Explore & establish linkages with overseas universities, research institutes and companies

Pursue financial support to students from international companies or foreign organizations
Invite lecturers or researchers toCUPB for lecture, joint research or other academic activities

Process overseas students' applications for admissions to CUPB
Provide assistance to all foreign visitors and students living on campus

Manage universities staff education conducted in foreign universities
Organize and manage the Chinese Language Center

Chinese Language Center was established in 1997. Till now, there have been about 550 international students from 14 countries who had finished their study at the center. An annual enrollment of the Chinese language programs is about 60 and the students are arranged into 4-5 classes. The center has 6 full-time and 4 part-time professional language teachers. They are all qualified and have been granted the Certificate of Teaching Chinese Language by the Ministry of Education of China.The programs are specially prepared for those foreign students who intend to study or work or travel in China, or who are interested in Chinese language and culture. It alos aims to improve the Chinese language ability of overseas students studying in CUPB.
