Northeastern University (NEU) is located in Shenyang of Liaoning Province, the center of economy, culture and transportation in Northeast China. The campus with the total-floor space of 750,000 square meters covers 1.98 million square meters, Mr. Chang Hsueh-liang, the well-known marshal who was praised as "hero of ages" by the late Premier Zhou Enlai,is the honorary president and chairman of the board of trustees of the University.

Northeastern University was founded in April of 1923. After over seventy years' development, it has become a nationally strategic university with outstanding academic programs in the engineering sciences and strong academic programs in physical and social sciences, and law and business administration sciences. The University is one of the 33 universities with graduate Schools in the nation. It has been approved by the state as one of the first group of "211 Project" universities which enjoy privileged construction. 

Northeastern University is operated directly under the Ministry of Education. The University adopts the management system of university and Schools. It has the School of Liberal Arts and Law, the School of Business Administration, the School of Sciences, the School of Resources and Civil Engineering, the School of Materials Science and Metallurgy, the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Information Science and Engineering, the School of Gold, and the Department of Foreign Languages, the Department of Physical Education, as well as Graduate Schools, the School of Adult Education, the Qinhuangdao Branch, the Liaoning Branch, and the NEU Continuous Education Center of the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. The University has designed 46 undergraduate programs, 53 master's degree programs, and 23 docdoral degree programs. 东北大学始建于1923年4月。1928年8月，著名爱国将领张学良将军兼任校长。东北大学是一所具有爱国主义光荣传统的大学，1931年"九·一八"事变后，被迫先后迁徙北平、西安、四川等地。在此期间，广大师生积极参加爱国抗日运动，是"一二·九"运动的先锋队和主力军。1949年2月，在东北大学工学院、理学院（部分）的基础上成立了沈阳工学院。1950年8月，定名为东北工学院。1960年被列为全国64所重点大学之一，是国务院首批批准有权授予学士、硕士和博士学位的大学。1993年3月8日，东北工学院复名为东北大学。1998年9月，东北大学由原冶金部属院校划转为教育部直属高校。学校是国家首批"211工程"和"985工程"重点建设学校，并实现教育部、辽宁省、沈阳市重点共建。

Chinese Language Couse for International Student

Ⅰ. Long-term Class 

The enrollments of long-term Class are twice every year, separately in March and September. There are three grades in Chinese language program, including preliminary, middle grade and high grade. Students will be divided into different classes in accordance with both the application and the results of interview. There are classes from Monday to Friday, and 22-24 periods a week. 

Required Courses 

Preliminary program: intensive reading, grammar, listening, oral Chinese, reading and writing Chinese character 

Middle and High grade program: intensive reading, grammar, listening, oral Chinese, writing, reading 

All Chinese teaching materials are compiled and published by Beijing Language and Culture University and Beijing University. 

Elective Courses 

The elective courses are offered according to the electing circumstances of students, including taijiquan, handwriting, Chinese culture, a survey of China, audio-visual instruction and speaking, etc. 

In addition, HSK Guidance is offered. Students can attend the class optionally and freely. 

Teaching Traits 

NEU devotes much attention to training the students’ ability of using language actually and persists in the teaching principle of “intensive teaching and more practice”. The average number is about 15 students every class. NEU provides good circumstances for international students to study Chinese. 

NEU has good Chinese language teachers. Besides the full-time Chinese teachers of the School of International Exchange, numbers of good part-time teachers of Chinese major and Journalism major also teach Chinese courses. 

The teaching practice and various outside activities have achieved remarkable successes and won the praise of students, which attracts many international students to study in NEU. 

Ⅱ. Short-term Class 

Short-term class is usually conducted during winter or summer vacation and begins from the third week of January or July. The duration is about 2-6 weeks. The exact time of beginning and the teaching content will be arranged according to the demands of applicants. If the number of applicants is less than 10, short-term class will not be conducted. If a group intends to study in NEU, the details of short-term class can be discussed.

一、长期班

长期班(学习半年以上)每年招生两次，分别于3月、9月开学，设有初、中、高三级课程。根据入学者的申请及分班面试的结果，组成若干个教学小班进行教学。

必修课程：

入门班和初级班：精读（及语法）、听力、口语、汉字读写。

中级班和高级班：精读（及语法）、听力、口语、写作、阅读。

汉语教材：全部使用北京语言文化大学及北京大学编写出版的教材。

选修课程：太极拳、书法、中国文化、中国概况、视听说、HSK考试辅导等（选修课是根据留学生选修情况而开设的）。

星期一至星期五上课，每周安排22-24课时，另外，还开设有针对 HSK 考试的专项辅导课（自由参加，免费学习）。

教学特点：

重视培养学生的语言实际运用能力。在课堂教学上坚持"精讲多练"的原则，平均每个教学班人数为15人左右；学校为留学生提供良好的语言学习环境。

教学师资力量强。除了拥有一支专职汉语教师队伍以外，目前我校中文专业、新闻专业的一大批优秀教师担任着我院的对外汉语兼职教学工作。

我们的教学实践及各种课外活动都取得了很好的成效，赢得了留学生的赞誉，并吸引了众多留学生来我校学习。 

二、短期班

短期班(时间为2~6周)：一般在寒、暑假中举办（每年一月或七月的第三个星期开始），具体开课时间及教学内容等均可根据申请者的要求酌情安排，个人报名，最少开班人数为10人。如组团前来，学习时间、教学内容及活动安排可以商议。
