(xī lín guō lè méng 锡林郭勒盟) lies in the center of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, with Xilinhot (xī lín hào tè 锡林浩特) serving as its government seat. "Xilin” in Mongolian means the Champaign on the plateau while Gol means the river. The name of Xilin Gol League origins from the Xilin River (Gol) where ten banners in Qing Dynasty (qīng cháo 清朝) formed a union. map

Covering a total area of 47,000 square kilometers, Badain Jaran Desert (bā dān jí lín shā mò 巴丹吉林沙漠) is the third largest desert in China, and the forth largest in the world. It is located in the south-central part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the North of the Hexi corridor (hé xī zǒu láng 河西走廊) in Gansu (gān sù 甘肃). With picturesque lakes and singing sand dunes, it is a hot-spot and an ideal place for exploration.

Ordos
(è ěr duō sī 鄂尔多斯) is situated in the southwest part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Ordos city, Hohhot (hū hé hào tè 呼和浩特) city and Baotou (bāo tóu 包头) city in Inner Mongolia constitute the most dynamic area of "Golden Triangle" in Inner Mongolia. "Ordos” is Mongolian which means “numbers of palaces”, and it is also the tomb protection tribal name of Genghis Khan (chéng jí sī hán 成吉思汗).

The city's Mongolian name means "place with deer", and an alternate name in Chinese is "Deer City" (lù chéng 鹿城). map

Meidaizhao Lamasery
(měi dà zhào 美岱召) is located around 80 km east of Baotou city (bāo tóu shì 包头市), lying in Meidaizhao Village (měi dà zhào cūn 美岱召村), Tumd Right Banner (tǔ mò tè yòu qí 土默特右旗) at the southern foot of Mt. Daqing (dà qīng shān 大青山), roughly midway between Baotou and Hohhot (hū hé hào tè 呼和浩特). It was one of the most important centers for spreading Tibetan Buddhism in Inner Mongolia.
